Farmington Animal Hospital Celebrates 350 (dog) Years of Companion Animal Care

New to the area and a brand new patient at Farmington Animal Hospital , “Bumpkin”, a happy-go-lucky chocolate Lab, cared little about the place his owner had selected for his annual checkup.  But on the recommendations from several neighbors and a 60 year history of service to the community, an enduring relationship with a commitment to the human-animal bond was about to begin.  Once in the door and after a vigorous sniffing around, the comfortable and almost home-like atmosphere made “Bumpkin” relax just a bit.  The staff was very friendly and engaged in small talk with him while his owners did something at the counter.  Then, in from the back room shuffled “Shotzee”, cute but a bit too old for him…she must own this place thought “Bumpkin”.  After being introduced to “Shotzee” he learned that she just oversees animal hospital operations while her caregivers, Dr. Donald Ducor along with his manager and wife Mary, do the grunt work.  Now “Bumpkin” began to get interested in this place…it sure smells good!  350 years worth of smells that humans can’t even appreciate.  Oh well, I guess they don’t miss what they can’t smell.  “Bumpkins” owners then found out that their grandpa had been one of Farmington Animal Hospital ’s first clients back in 1947 when Dr. Duke H. Ducor built and established what would become an enduring fixture in the town of Farmington on the corner of Farmington Avenue and Talcott Notch Road .  Wow, thought “Bumpkin”!  Maybe my great-great-great-great-great-great-great…great grandfather got his annual checkup with the original Dr. Ducor right here 350 years ago.  It was now obvious to “Bumpkin” that they had indeed chosen a great place to nurture the human-animal bond.

Today the Farmington Animal Hospital provides personalized high quality comprehensive veterinary services including advanced diagnostics, medicine, and surgery, preventive health care, boarding and even day care.  The hospital is open Monday through Friday 8-7pm, Saturdays 8-1, and Sundays 9-10am.

To commemorate this 60th anniversary, Farmington Animal Hospital will be holding several events this year.  It is not necessary to be a client or patient of our hospital to participate.
